Poem by: Lindsay
My Winter Coat,My Winter Coat BR>
My Winter Coat,My Winter Coat
It provides warmth
It provides security
A sense of security
When no one else seems to care
When I'm left alone in the world
My coat is still there
Still embracing me with that same warm hug
When everyone else seems to scoff at me
My coat is still there
Holding on
There for me to bury my sorrow
In it's warm snugness
And so it's there I retreat to
When there's no one else around
Because I know that my coat doesn't care
What I look like or
What I say
What I think or
How I smell
What I wear or
How I talk
What my name is or
Who I am
Because it doesn't know any better
If it had a mind
I'm sure it would have been taught to hate by now
Because that's the only way we learn to hate
We have to be taught
So you see
Sometimes we need coats
Things without minds
Because mindless things can't hate
But they also can't love
Because you need a mind to love as well as hate
So sometimes I leave the
Constant, unchanging, security of my coat
In search of real love
Not the fake love shown by
The flash of an insincere smile
The true love that you can
Grasp and hold and live off of
And when I find that love
I will be able to shed the
Binding threads of my winter coat
But until then
I will continue to return
To the security of my winter coat
It's there I find my warmth
It's there I find my synthetic love
